Clockwise, from top left: - Courtney's new herb and flower garden (what's the eggshells for?) - Luka's height marks on the kitchen wall - The passionfruit vine growing furiously in Joel and Mara's backyad - Tiss' new front teeth! We wanted to reflect the economic crisis which is hitting Latvia hard - but couldn't work out how to effectively photograph growing GST, a growing sense of unease, growing prices, growing unemployment... so we thought Tiss' teeth were a much better example of positive growth!
Hey, that is god to know about the eggshells! I know that eggshells are really good for soil (you always put em in compost)- but that is super good to know that they will also keep snails or slugs off! I'm going to put them in my plants!
I don't know if it was snails or cats, but my basil was gone this morning! It is the second time it has happened, they only eat the basil. They must like the taste of it.
We had a gardener at my school in Melbourne who made all the student collect egg shells and bring them into school so she could put in the veggie garden. I got the idea from her. It generally works, my flowers and all the other herbs haven't been touched and we have massive snails roaming around our garden.
This is about 4 brothers and their families living in different continents. Each week, each of us take a photo to reflect a common theme, and then we post them here. These help us keep in touch, and see aspects of each other's lives. We hope you enjoy our 4 windows...

The eggshells are to keep the snails off the seedlings. The snails won't go over the sharp edges of the shells and eat my herbs.
